Melody Weimer
BCDHA Board of Director Elections (Vancouver Island)
Dear Colleagues,
My name is Melody Weimer, and I live on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples, specifically the Songhees Nation and Xʷsepsəm (Esquimalt) Nation. I gratefully acknowledge their welcome and graciousness as I live, work, and play on these lands.
I am a proud dental hygienist with more than 30 years of experience across multiple facets of dentistry, including practice as a dental therapist, clinical dental hygienist in general and periodontal settings, and as an educator in Certified Dental Assistant and Dental Hygiene programs. I hold a Master of Education degree from Simon Fraser University and currently serve as Interim Chair for the Dental Programs at Camosun College.
I am seeking re‑election to the BCDHA Board of Directors because I remain deeply committed to our profession and to serving our members. Over the past three years as a Board member, I have been actively engaged during a period of significant change in dental hygiene regulation and governance.
Dental hygiene practice continues to change, with the growth of dental corporations, expanding alternative and independent practice roles, and evolving regulatory structures. I believe BCDHA plays a critical role in advocating for the profession, supporting members through these shifts, and ensuring that dental hygienists across all practice environments have a strong and unified voice. My experience as an educator, leader, and Board member enables me to contribute thoughtfully and effectively at the Board table.
If re‑elected, I am committed to continuing this work over the next three years. I will remain attentive to member perspectives, engaged with regulatory developments, and supportive of BCDHA’s ongoing efforts in advocacy, communication, and member‑focused initiatives. It would be an honour to continue serving our association and profession during this important time.
Thank you for your consideration of my nomination, and I wish all candidates the very best.
Warm regards,
Melody Weimer, DH, MEd
