Cherie Payne is BCDHA’s New Executive Director

The Board of Directors is thrilled to announce that Cherie Payne will be taking over the role of BCDHA’s Executive Director (ED) effective February 20, 2024.

Cherie is an experienced leader with exceptional expertise in advocacy, corporate communications, stakeholder engagement, government relations, organizational leadership and strategic planning in the non-profit sector. She has worked with the BC Pharmacy Association, BC Psychological Association and various other professional organizations including Vantage Point (a service provider to BC non-profits) as Director of Government Relations and Sector Development, an elected member of the Vancouver School Board and served as Legislative Assistant to a federal Minister of Health. Cherie holds a BA degree from McGill University and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.

Cherie has extensive understanding of the legislative and regulatory environment and has a keen interest in understanding and advocating for the changes that need to occur in order to meet the goals of the Association including maximizing the scope of practice, removing barriers to improve access to preventive oral healthcare services, integration of dental hygiene and therapy into primary healthcare, interprofessional collaboration across the healthcare sector, and supporting programming and resources for our members so they are connected to their professional community.

Cherie was born and raised in Vancouver and has lived and worked in various capacities in seven cities on three continents where she has developed her skills in helping public interest organizations, building sound policy, and nurturing coalitions. Cherie has been involved with various organizations aimed at improving the health and living conditions of others, including Food for the Poor Canada, the Vancouver School Board Breakfast Programs, Homewood Health, World Vision, and the Contemplative Justice Network.
