BCDHA Connects with Future Dental Hygienists at Healthcare Career Fair

Jun 1, 2026

Representatives of the BCDHA engaged with the next generation of dental hygienists at the HawksMD Healthcare & Medicine Career Fair at John Knox Christian School in New Westminster on May 19.

BCDHA Chair Cerina Marshall attended the event, speaking with students about careers in dental hygiene, the many pathways available within the profession, and the important role dental hygienists play in supporting overall health and wellness.

“Events like this are a great opportunity to connect with students who are beginning to think about their futures,” said Marshall. “It’s important for young people to see the variety of opportunities available within healthcare and to learn more about the impact dental hygienists can have in their communities.”

The career fair brought together healthcare professionals from a wide range of disciplines to speak directly with students interested in medicine and healthcare careers. Throughout the morning, students had the opportunity to ask questions about day-to-day work in the profession, education pathways, workplace experiences, and the qualities needed to succeed in healthcare.

Students also asked thoughtful questions about patient care, professional challenges, research gaps in healthcare, and how healthcare professionals maintain empathy and balance in demanding careers.

“Connecting with students and sharing our experiences is an important part of building the future of the profession,” Marshall said. “You never know which conversation might inspire someone to pursue a career in dental hygiene.”

BCDHA appreciates the opportunity to take part in community events like the HawksMD Healthcare & Medicine Career Fair and looks forward to continuing to engage with future oral health professionals across British Columbia.
