Continuing Competency in B.C.
In April 2026, the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals launched a harmonized Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for all oral health professionals in British Columbia. The program is designed to support ongoing professional growth, reflective practice, and safe patient care throughout a registrant’s career.
The QAP focuses on yearly self-assessment, continuous learning, and self-reflection through annual learning plans and continuing professional development (CPD) activities. All licensees are expected to engage in learning that is relevant to their individual practice and aligned with the BCCOHP Professional and Practice Standards.
As a new dental hygiene graduate entering practice in BC, it is important to become familiar with the QAP requirements early in your career and develop habits related to reflective practice and ongoing learning.
How do I learn more about the QAP program?
BCCOHP has an excellent resource outlining the entire Quality Assurance program that you can access on their website under Dental Hygiene Quality Assurance.
