BCDHA Submits Official Feedback on Proposed BCCOHP Bylaws

Nov 5, 2025

Association shares feedback on behalf of members following Fireside Chat sessions and urges continued engagement as the review process continues

The BC Dental Hygienists’ Association (BCDHA) has formally submitted its feedback letter to the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP) regarding the proposed bylaws under the Health Professions and Occupations Act.

This submission represents a comprehensive analysis of the proposed bylaws and its potential impact for dental hygienists across British Columbia, that was shared through a series of Fireside Chat sessions held throughout October. During these sessions, members were alerted to key sections of the proposed bylaws that will directly impact how dental hygienists practice and are governed in the province.

In its letter, BCDHA commends BCCOHP for proposing that all dental hygienists be permitted to own and operate independent dental hygiene practices without a degree requirement — a positive step toward expanding access to preventive oral health care. The Association also included a detailed summary of recommendations highlighting opportunities to strengthen transparency, consistency, and fairness across all oral health professions.

BCDHA will continue to engage with members as additional sections of the bylaws (Parts 1, 13, and 14) are released for consultation. Members are encouraged to stay informed and continue sharing their insights as this important process moves forward.
