Fireside Chat: Proposed Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene

Mandy Hayre is a dental hygiene practitioner, educator and current Chair of Dental Programs at Camosun College. Mandy has been an educator and administration for almost 30 years. She started her teaching career at Malaspina University-College, then started the Dental Hygiene Diploma program at Vancouver Island University in 2006, and hopes to start a degree completion program at Camosun College.

Mandy is very passionate about the profession and has served on the board of the International Federation of Dental Hygiensists, President of CDHA, Chair of BCDHA, and the exam committee of the NDHCB. She has been an examiner, investigator, and an assessor for the CDHBC; and on the board of the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada. Another passion for Mandy is addressing access to care issues. She was on the committee that started the first no-cost dental clinic in Nanaimo and the low cost dental clinic at Camosun College. She has also gone to rural and remote areas of BC to provide care to members that have limited access to care.

She is here today to speak to us about the proposed Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene degree completion program that Camosun College hopes to offer.
