PART 4 — Trends & Entitlements
Negotiation: Tips and Resources
Welcome to a new series from the BCDHA designed to help you understand workplace benefits and entitlements in BC. This series will help you understand trends in dental hygiene benefits, entitlements your employer is legally required to offer, and tips for negotiating your compensation.
What You Need to Know
Negotiating your compensation and benefits is an important skill for career advancement. In our final installment, we share tips and resources to help you confidently advocate for yourself:
- Research salary trends and understand the value you bring to the practice. Resources, such as the BCDHA Wage Survey Report, are available to help you determine your market value.
- Finding an appropriate time, being well prepared, and knowing your worth can help. For example, meeting at a time of day that is less busy and convenient for your employer, knowing salary trends for your area and experience level, understanding your production, and recognizing the intangible value you bring through patient rapport and trust are all important considerations.
- The CDHA legal line and Homewood Health are valuable resources to support you in your negotiations and career development.
Remember, negotiation is a conversation. By approaching it with preparation and a collaborative mindset, you can achieve a mutually beneficial agreement that reflects your value and supports your well-being.
