As of June 30, 2025, the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP) has officially implemented its unified Professional Standards for the Oral Health Team. These new standards apply to all regulated oral health professionals in British Columbia, including dental hygienists.
The Professional Standards outline the minimum expectations for ethical conduct, performance, and professional behaviour. They are intended to support accountability and promote consistent, competent care across the entire oral health landscape.
This change marks an important step in aligning practice expectations across professions—and will eventually replace all legacy standards and guidelines issued by former regulatory bodies.
