Meet Melody Weimer

BCDHA Director, Vancouver Island

My name is Melody Weimer and I live on the traditional territories of the Lkwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples.

I acknowledge their welcome and graciousness as I live, work and play on these lands.  I am a proud dental hygienist that has explored many different aspects of dentistry.  In the last 30+ years I have practiced as a dental therapist, clinical dental hygienist in general and periodontal practices, and as an educator in both CDA and dental hygiene programs.

In addition, I have served as a committee or board member with different organizations and I have a Master’s in Education from Simon Fraser University.  Currently, I am employed as a full-time educator at Camosun College.

I welcome the opportunity to serve on the board of directors for a few reasons.

First, I am passionate about this profession and I look forward to serving all of you – the members of BCDHA.

Second, my previous work experiences have prepared me well to undertake the role of being a Board Director.

Lastly, the profession of dental hygiene is evolving quickly (for example we have a new regulator (BCCOHP), dental corporations are growing rapidly, and we have more dental hygienists working in alternative practice settings.

I believe it is vital that BCDHA continues the strong advocacy work they have been doing, and that our most important role is to listen to all of you (our members) so we are moving in the direction you want!  I commit to doing this.

Thank you for your support.
