Meet Michelle Worton

BCDHA Board of Director Elections (At-Large)

I am a dedicated, compassionate, grassroots Dental Hygiene Practitioner serving the community of Fort St. John, British Columbia for 17 years. I am currently the owner and founder of Blooming Smiles Dental Hygiene. I have developed the solid critical thinking skills required to plan, build, manage, and expand my dental hygiene clinic and I believe these qualities will be an asset to the BCDHA Board of Directors. My passion for dental hygiene has allowed my practice and my patients to thrive, as well as highlighting the profession of dental hygiene in our region.

I have organized and participated in the National Dental Hygiene Week and Gift from the Heart initiatives for many years. I have also submitted article contributions to Oh Canada Magazine and Oral Health Group, which reflects my genuine desire to promote the profession.

I have served on the CDHBC Board of Directors as the Cariboo North Representative, as well as on the CDHBC Inquiry Committee. Through this experience I have gained valuable knowledge on how board-led organizations function efficiently and effectively and I now wish to use this knowledge to serve my professional association.  As well, my experience in a general dental practice, clinic ownership and my roles with the CDHBC, have given me the ability to understand the strengths and gaps of dental hygiene practice.

I live and work in a rural and northern community which have unique characteristics and challenges not found in urban centers. I believe my perspectives will be a benefit to the BCDHA board of directors as they continue to advocate for all BC dental hygienists. My creativity and innovative thinking engage both dental professionals and the public. I apply thought-provoking delivery methods which continue to educate the public regarding the significance of the profession.

I believe in effective leadership and collaboration through fostering genuine relationships, which is rooted in cultural awareness, inclusivity, and kindness. My experience would directly contribute to discussions helping to best serve our members and the public. I strongly believe my skills and experience, paired with my love for our profession, will contribute advocacy for the advancement of our profession and be of significant value to the BCDHA Board.
